Why Come to Manor House

Manor House is one of the most respected dementia care homes in the country and we are pleased to say has set the standard for dementia care which other homes have since been trying to follow.

Dementia as a medical condition is a deterioration in the function of a persons brain and there is unfortunately no cure. The best form of therapy is to slow down the speed at which dementia progresses and allow the resident to enjoy a full and active life for as long as possible. Our highly trained carers continually undergo the latest innovation in dementia training to ensure our methods in supporting our residents continually evolve.

When a person with dementia finds that their mental abilities are declining, they often feel vulnerable and in need of reassurance and support. The people closest to them - including their carers, friends and family - need to do everything they can to help the person to retain their sense of identity and feelings of self-worth.

What is different about Manor House’s staffing and training?

Manor House has always chosen to operate with a higher staffing ratio to residents than the average dementia care home. This ensures every resident is supported in a relaxed, unhurried manner and allows for plenty of interaction between the carer and the resident.

Internationally recognised trainers such as David Sheard (Dementia Care Matters) and Helen Sanderson for (Person Centred
Care) have helped ensure the home follows best practice in the support we give to our residents. We have yearly update training from Mandy Parsons (CPN) as well as a host of national training providers for accredited and holistic
based learning. Our aim is to focus on areas of the brain which have not been affected by the dementia and to keep this as active as possible, for as long as possible.

Why would I want to send my parent to an EDE classified home?

For a resident suffering from dementia to move into a home can be a traumatic process so once they have settled into a home the last thing you want to be faced with is to move again as the home is unable to manage enhanced forms of dementia.
For the last 11 years Manor House has held an Enhanced Dementia classification, which signifies the home has the ability to care for residents whose dementia has deteriorated to enhanced levels. Manor House has one of the highest ratio of carers to residents in a dementia home, we implement a continuous training and development program for all our carers and every single member of staff including the chef and the cleaning staff are trained in dementia care. We stay abreast of all the latest therapies and advancement in the field of dementia care to ensure that as the needs of the resident changes over time we are also able to adapt to continually meet their needs.
